Outdoor Survival on LV-921

Hope described a seesaw: claustrophobia inside, exposure outside, then the urge to go back in. That is the outdoor design. Journalists stepped out of an APC into rain and wind and immediately understood the soundscape had become a character. Lightning hits trees. Some catch fire. Progress happens through trenches and tunnels while the storm continues above. This is not a postcard between set pieces. It is a set piece with worse cover.

The April teaser, embedded here, is twenty-five seconds of a door opening onto rain and an emergency phone. Stay off ridgelines. Use negative space between flashes. Treat the rover as cover and as a noise source. If a companion stays with a broken vehicle, you are already split, which is a horror sentence older than this franchise. Move in the storm’s loud moments if you must cross open ground. Hold in the quiet if the hunter is using the same mask.

The Alien is being trained for exteriors. Do not assume it needs ceiling vents to appear. Assume it can use the dark the way it used Sevastopol’s ducts. Combine hiding with terrain, not furniture. Combine distraction with the knowledge that sound may travel farther and mean less. Then get inside, where the indoor survival list takes over, and do not relax. Relaxation is the title of the teaser.
