How to Distract the Xenomorph
A distraction is a sentence you make the hunter read instead of you. If the sentence is sloppy, it comes back with better grammar.
Divert, distract, disrupt
Those three verbs are not flavour text. They are the combat system. Ana Sopikova told previewers that old favourites return, including the motion tracker, and that noisemakers, molotovs, and the flamethrower remain valid playstyles alongside people who just hide. The point is option. The point is not a loadout that kills the universe’s perfect organism.
A noisemaker is for rooms with two doors. Throw through the door you will not use, wait for commitment, leave through the other. A molotov is for buying a turn when the hunter is already too close to sneak. Fire is a conversation, not an execution. If you light a hallway you still have to cross, you have written a bright suicide note. Study tools as routing equipment.
Crafting in the demo opened doors and restored objects. That is distraction by architecture. A sealed door between you and a patrol is a quieter lie than a beep. Use the crafting notes when your pockets are empty and the vent is already occupied.
When not to throw
Do not throw because you are nervous. Nervous noise is how the AI collects homework on you. Do not throw in a dead-end. Do not throw at the Alien’s feet unless you are already moving through the gap it creates. Do not throw when a synthetic is also in earshot unless you want two investigations. Combine with hiding: the throwable is the sentence, the table is the comma, the vent is the period.
Outdoor throws behave differently. Wind, rain, and open space change how sound reads. A noisemaker that filled a Sevastopol corridor may become a rumour on a ridgeline. The outdoor guide is the place to plan that. Indoor throws should always have a follow-up tile you can occupy in three seconds. If you cannot name the tile, keep the item.
Flamethrower honesty
Fans want the flamethrower because it felt like agency in 2014. It still will. Agency is not lethality. Hope’s interviews keep the creature unkillable. Use fire to break a grab attempt or to force a retreat, then treat the room as more dangerous because you announced yourself. Then go to the survival page and become boring again.
The art-director conversation below is the right video for this topic because it is about sandbox options, not a fake boss bar. Listen for the locker-versus-tools split. Both are allowed. Only one of them scales when the hunter starts checking furniture.
